FILMS: STRAIGHTSPLOITATION! WHEN: THURSDAY, June 20 at 9 pm WHERE: Yerba Buena Center for the Arts as part of Frameline's SFLGFF Steakhaus Productions and Frameline bring you an especially wrong evening of comedy--STRAIGHTSPLOITATION! Dirty mommies and rock star dreams abound in this collection of short films from Steakhaus-associated artists. Last summer's Steakhaus night at the Roxie drew over 500 people, so grab your favorite gay and check out this budding new genre. Oakland based digital media company Steakhaus Productions turned tasteful short filmmaking on its ear with Lez B Friends/A Biker Bitch Hate Story (1998) in collaboration with the IIlinore Show. Their award winning debut feature By Hook or By Crook is a "festival favorite" (Variety) and will air on the Sundance Channel this June, followed by a rock-n-roll theatrical run in the fall. Steakhaus shorts have screened internationally at the Frameline film festival, Outfest, Montreal's Image & Nation, NY Underground Film Festival, Finland's Tampere Short Film Festival and many more. "If Russ Meyers and John Waters got together and had a baby at Stormy Leather, it might look something like this!" - Chicago Reeling Steakhaus Productions is building an empire by working with talented and innovative artists to achieve creative works not driven by Hollywood standards. Current allies in this industry siege are Killer Banshee Studios, Copious Films and the notorious Mr. Cross (making his directorial debut with Ms. Hell). Samara Halperin has been making short films for the past 13 years. Her work (Tumbleweed Town, Shari Shapiro's Slumber Party) has been making queers and their straight friends laugh in screenings from Australia to Saskatchewan. Her debut feature Uptown by Midnight - a teen comedy about being 14, punk and in love is being produced by Steakhaus Productions. Tara Jepsen is a writer and actor from San Francisco. She has traveled extensively with all-girl spoken word circus Sister Spit (1997, 1998, 1999) and masterminded explosive punk rock cabaret Dr. Frockrocket's Vivifying (Re-Animatronic) Menagerie and Medicine Show, which toured in 2001. She is writing a feature spoof on psychic powers with Mark Ewert to be produced by Steakhaus Productions. Beth Lisick is the author of Monkey Girl and This Too Can Be Yours (Manic D Press). She recently won the prestigious Firecracker Award for her last book. She currently performs with the sketch comedy group White Noise Radio Theatre and writes a weekly column for SFGate.com. Beth and Tara are also working on a feature script with Silas Howard and NGB Productions. From BBC to MTV, the Illinore Show is out there. They have directed videos for My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, Ministry and Revolting Cocks, as well as an immense library of independent videos (Pimp's X-mas Carol) that have gone on to festivals worldwide. Currently the Illinore Show and Steakhaus Productions are producing the feature Slash-N-Burn about a mysterious killer at the Roller Derby. Greg Arden and Solomon Burbridge do so much more than just make movies. Between Mr. Arden's psychedelic lounge act The Tony Mangini Show and Mr. Burbridge's own electronic/dj group Larue, It's a miracle that anything else ever gets done. Their film, Ugly Parade is gaining a cult following with its previous sold out screenings. Rumor has it that there is even an Ugly Parade theme restaurant in Alaska, where waiters dress up as characters from the film. Mr. Arden is completing a feature script for Steakhaus titled Accidental Fanny Pack. Mr. Burbridge has a song coming out on the exclusive funk and dub label,Tummy Touch. Directly following the shorts program the aforementioned will be hosting CORN-A-VAL at the CW Saloon. The creators of Jesus bring you Synchronized Corn-Cob Blow-Job Dancers, Cream Corn Wrestling hosted by Mr. Cross, Hot Buttered Corn on a Stick served up by Harmony, Miriam & Helen's Plushie stand, Performances by The Think Pink Posse & The Tony Mangini Show and DJ's Sol, Fagotronic & Reaganomic.
